Monhegan Limited Edition Images

Charles, an established portrait, wedding, and fine arts photographer with a successful career of 48 years lives in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Both Charles and his wife Jacqueline were the first ever Niagara Falls photographers to earn a Master’s and Craftsman degree, and the first to teach a degree program to other professional photographers on the island of Saint Lucia in the West Indies, for 9 years, for Professional Photographers of America.

He’s photographed Prime Minister Joe Clark, Justin and Margaret Trudeau, actor Christopher Allen Lloyd, and many others.

His passion for photography brought him to Monhegan Island, Maine, a beautiful one square mile island with over 400 years of history. He first visited the island due to Jacqueline teaching plein air painting workshops there in 1995. The island is famous for lobstering, fishing, artists, birding, and over 300 species of wildflowers. Monhegan Boat Line, Hardy Boat Cruises, and Balmy Days Cruises are the boat lines which serve the island, where you can enjoy a visit to the Monhegan Museum and lighthouse, Lupine Gallery, artist studios, Monhegan Brewery, and hiking on the back side of the island. You can enjoy places to eat with beautiful views like The Island Inn and the Fish House.

“Charles’s long association with Monhegan Island, knowledge of the best vantage points, and eye for vivid composition bring the magic of this special island to life. For those who have yet to visit, this is the introduction you have been waiting for. For the rest of us, this is a treasure trove of Monhegan memories.”                     John Bement, Kennebunkport, Maine

“Being an ‘island boy’ and growing up on the island, close interactions with tourists, guests at The Island Inn (which my mom and dad owned), and the plethora of artists over the years - photographers, painters, sculptors, etc. was a given. I can honestly say that Charles truly has an artistic talent in capturing the beauty that is Monhegan Island that few possess. Both in subject matter and the mood. Many of his images evoke the nostalgic sights, sounds, and even the fragrant memories, and allow them to be vividly and fondly remembered. ” Lance Burton, Castine

"Charles’ photographs capture the essence in a way that I can actually feel, hear, touch and smell the scene, as if I was standing right there in the middle at that moment.          Cyn Jensen… Monhegan Maine.

"Vandersluy's photography enriches my life as I go to Monhegan for spirit renewal and to spend time with myself. Many photos create soul searching and remind me of places I cherish and find peace. The connection is unexplainable. He has given me permission to create paintings from his images....can't think of anything better.          Judy Bowman Anthrop Holland, Michigan

"Charles captures the essence of Monhegan, its beauty, wonder, uniqueness and its soul".       Kevin Irvin, Artist - Erie, PA
